Speaker Info

blog: Cat 4 Kids

I have an educational background in psychology, a professional background in the social service arena and a very kid-centric personal life. I have publishing credits in the adult arena (short stories and articles) as well as being the contributing editor for Tales from the Bully Box, a middle grade anthology on bullying. Additionally, I participate on several writing  blogs and moderate at AgentQuery Connect. I’ve presented at schools, libraries, Young Writer’s Conferences and for various organizations, and am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

From Good to Great, Editing Made Easy Rough drafts get you average grades and average stories, but without a rough draft, you have nothing to edit. This session will teach you how to control writer’s block in a way that keeps you writing to the end of your first draft. Building on that, you will learn the tips and tricks that writers use to transform your words into something amazing.

  • Presentation is appropriate for all ages
  • Teaches strategies for pushing past mental road blocks, as well as editing skills that reinforce classroom work

So, You Want to Be a Writer? Writing is more than a pair of comfy pajama pants, a little bit of bed head and a mug of chai tea. It takes serious imagination and a few things you wouldn’t expect…like science and math and history. In this workshop, kids will find out what it really takes to be a writer.

  • Presented mostly to middle grade readers
  • Teaches the value of a well-rounded education without preaching, also hits on critical thinking skills

Tailored to your Needs: I am open to and experienced in speaking for all ages on nearly any topic involving writing, publishing and my personal journey. In fact, I enjoy learning about the groups I speak for and presenting information based on their needs. I also do readings and host open discussions based on the content of the excerpt I read.
